Introduction to the Jennings Parks and Recreation Department
The City of Jennings operates seven parks within the city that provide various recreational activities for the citizens of Jennings and the surrounding areas. The parks, located throughout the city, are open to the public daily from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm and the public is encouraged to take advantage of the amenities they offer. Park amenities include playgrounds, restroom facilities, pavilions, picnic areas, basketball courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, sports fields, walking track, and a fishing pond at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park. In total the city offers nine tennis courts spanning four parks. In the spring of 2019, the Jennings Parks and Recreation Department renovated the basketball court at North Cutting Park with a new synthetic playing surface, new LED lights and new basketball goals. In the fall of that year, the city began construction on a new basketball pavilion at Marcus Cain Park. The court opened to the public in the Spring of 2020 and is the largest covered basketball court in the area. The Jennings Parks and Recreation Department also provides sports programs for the youth of Jennings. The JPRD organizes leagues for football (ages 10-12), boys’ basketball (ages 9-14), soccer (ages 6-13), as well as baseball and softball (ages 6-14). The City Pool also hosts a local swim team. All organized sports activities, with the exception of swimming and basketball, take place at Zigler Park, which serves as the city’s sports complex. The Jennings Parks and Recreation Department takes great pride in serving people of Jennings through well maintained facilities and quality programs offered, and we hope that everyone can find something that they can enjoy at a local park in the City of Jennings.
